Description

Flame-proof panels are mostly used in the place where the concentration of flammable gases, vapors or dust occurs. SPECIFICATIONS:

a) The enclosure shall be flame proof and suitable for indoor / out door installation as per requirement. Panel shall have external fixing lugs, and shall be suitable for mounting on vertical face such as wall / column, or steel pedestal.

b) Incomer, bus bars, and outgoing feeder elements shall be housed in separate compartments. The separation between the compartments should be such that no flame propagation is allowed.

c) Incomer shall have mechanical ON / OFF indication and facility for pad locking the operating handle in off position. An explosion proof cable gland for incoming cable shall be provided, suitable for cable size required. Crimping type lugs shall be provided for incoming cable.

d) Caution plates shall be provided on the inspection covers to avoid opening without isolation. Nameplates shall be provided for each outgoing circuit, and for the complete panel indicating panel number. All nameplates shall be fixed by screws and shall be made of laminated plastic with white letters on black background.

e) All terminals shall be of non-sparking, anti-loosening design such that they do not produce any are or spark in normal operation. All equipment on single-phase supply shall be provided with an independent earth terminal inside the enclosure for connecting the earth core of the cable and shall have facility for looping. All gaskets shall be of neoprene.

Flameproof / Explosion Proof Panels

The terms ‘explosion proof’ and ‘flameproof’ are largely interchangeable. Although there are some subtle differences, engineers and the market in general usually use both terms to mean the same thing, i.e. a piece of electrical equipment designed for use in a hazardous area by means of heavy-duty enclosure.

The equipment is simply contained in a heavy protective enclosure, usually made of die cast steel, occasionally plastic. If heat or sparks from faulty equipment within the enclosure ignite flammable gas present with it the resulting explosion is contained within the enclosure.  It must be used for field wiring. A suitably rated cable is connected directly to the equipment using certified flame-proof cable glands.
